How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks in 2025

Stretch marks: they've been the bane of every woman's existence for as long as we can remember.

Luckily, times are progressing and we’ve finally come to accept that stretch marks are a natural part of being human.

But hey, who wouldn’t want to still diminish their appearance a little bit, right?

The good news is that in 2025 we have advanced technology that can help us do just that.

Here’s how we can help you treat stretch marks at West Wilson Aesthetics in Mt. Juliet, just in time for the new year.

What Causes Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are fine lines in the skin that happen when quick growth or weight gain stretches the skin (like during pregnancy).

Skin is usually fairly stretchy, but when it's overstretched, the normal production of collagen (the major protein that makes up the tissue in skin) is disrupted.

As a result, the skin can develop stretch marks.

At first, stretch marks may show up as reddish or purplish lines that can look indented and have a different texture from the skin around them.

Stretch marks often turn lighter over time, but are still visible.

Using the Icon Laser to Treat Stretch Marks

Unfortunately, creams and skin care simply don’t have an impact on reducing stretch marks.

Instead, the gold standard for stretch mark removal is laser treatment. And more specifically, ICON laser treatment

The ICON laser resurfaces your skin by using laser energy that stimulates the production of new collagen, and prompts your body’s natural healing process to create new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue.

The ICON’s fractional laser technology helps create healthier, younger looking skin, and is FDA-cleared to treat a number of skin concerns including:

  • Sun Damage
  • Stretch Marks
  • Age Spots
  • Broken Vessels

How Does The Icon Laser Work?

If you’re curious how the ICON laser technically works, it uses advanced technology to treat stretch marks by targeting the deeper layers of the skin where the issue originates.

At West Wilson Aesthetics, we use the Cynosure ICON 1540 Fractional Non-Ablative laser handpiece, which is FDA-approved specifically for stretch mark treatment. This fractional laser penetrates into the dermis to stimulate new collagen production and remodel scar tissue, helping to improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

Clinical studies have shown an improvement of 51% to 75% in the appearance of stretch marks three months after treatment, based on reviews of before-and-after photos.

Typically, you’ll need three to four treatments to restore skin smoothness and consistency. The procedure is quick - each treatment can be performed in as little as 30 minutes - so you’re in and out of the clinic in no time.

Downtime & Maintenance of Stretch Mark Treatment

One of the reasons that our clients love the ICON laser treatment so much is because it improves the way your skin looks and feels, without surgery or lengthy downtime.

In fact, you can walk out of the med spa to resume normal activities, with virtually zero symptoms or downtime.

At worst, the treated area may be red and mildly swollen for a few hours to a few days.

After undergoing three or more consecutive treatments, you'll start noticing a visible decrease in stretch marks, accompanied by improved, healthier, and younger-looking skin. Improvement in the skin continues up to 6 months after last treatment.

With stretch mark removal treatment, the results are semi-permanent and do need maintenance.

Maintenance timelines can vary per the individual but most clients do maintenance once a year.
