And among the many services we offer, few treatments generate as many questions and interest as the highly sought-after 'lip filler' or lip injections.
Will lip fillers look weird on me?
Are they painful?
How much do they cost?
So, we've decided to write a blog post addressing the most frequently asked questions we receive at the med spa to help you determine if lip injections are right for you.
Let’s dive in.
What is lip filler?
First things first, let’s talk about what lip injections are.
Lip fillers are a type of dermal filler, which are non-invasive injectable treatments designed to rejuvenate and add volume to the face. They consist of synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA), which is actually a natural substance in your body.
There are many different brands of lip fillers, including Juvederm®, Restylane® and Perlane®.
We have a full page over on our website that explains more about dermal fillers in general here!
Who is lip filler for?
Lip fillers are not one-size-fits-all… and the truth is that lip filler will not suit everyone.
For example, if you have very delicate features, lip fillers may overwhelm your face and make everything seem out of proportion.
Likewise, if you have a small chin, large lips will stand out a lot more than if you have a strong jawline.
That’s why it’s important to see a reputable, medically-trained professional who can give you a comprehensive consultation for facial balancing.
When a patient comes in for lip filler at West Wilson Aesthetics, we do a comprehensive assessment, and may recommend filler elsewhere so we can balance out the features using fillers to produce a more natural result.
We are able to restore natural features with HA in the cheeks, chin, and jawline to ensure natural augmentation of the lips.
Additionally, depending on the filler amount, your med spa professional may recommend spreading out the injections over several appointments. This could be done, for example, once a month or twice a week.
This approach helps create a more natural appearance as you're gradually expanding the area, rather than injecting all at once.
How quickly will you see the results from lip filler?
Most of our clients will see results from dermal filler injections immediately after treatment, with enhanced results kicking in up to 2 weeks after treatment.
As for how long it lasts, it always depends on the individual, but most clients need maintenance every 6-18 months.
How much does lip filler cost?
The cost of lip injections is going to vary based on the provider and amount of dermal fillers you require.
Here at West Wilson Aesthetics, our dermal fillers are competitively priced at $750 per 1ml syringe, which is often sufficient for lip fillers.
For the month of February, you can take $100 off Restylane® Kysse Lip Filler! Check out all of our monthly specials here.

Is there downtime after getting lip filler?
There is very minimal downtime after getting lip filler, although some swelling or bruising may occur.
We recommend using a cold compress to reduce swelling, and avoid adding excessive pressure or massage on the treated area.
For the first 1-2 days after treatment, avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun exposure. Additionally, avoid flying for 7 days post-treatment.
Does lip filler hurt?
No, getting lip injections doesn’t hurt.
You might feel a little pressure during the application process, as if someone is pressing on you with their finger.
Afterward, your skin may feel tighter or fuller than it did before. That sensation is because the fillers are stretching your skin back into its previous position before volume loss or aging happened.
Are there alternatives to lip filler?
When it comes to adding volume to your lips, there are few alternatives that will be as effective as lip fillers.
However, one popular alternative is a treatment known as a “lip flip”, which is when a medically trained provider injects Botox into the corners of your mouth and the edges of your lip to make your lips appear fuller.
The Botox relaxes the muscles around your upper lip, which makes your lip “flip” upward a tiny bit and appear larger than normal.
We recommend booking a consultation with your provider if you’re interested in learning more about the lip flip vs. lip injections.
What happens if you don’t like the result of lip fillers?
A common concern among clients is the fear of looking unnatural or having "duck lips” after treatment.
This is another reason we recommend vetting your lip filler provider to make sure they are medically trained, and have plenty of 5-star reviews to prove their expertise.
Experienced medical professionals can achieve natural-looking results with the right technique and skillsets.
The good news is that if you absolutely hate the result of lip fillers, dermal fillers can always be dissolved and reversed. We recommend speaking with your medical professional to discuss how this process works.
